Muppies is introducing the world’s largest Muslim leadership development conference on September 21, 2019, in Chicago.

Representation matters, and with an acclaimed media career spanning NBC News, Al Jazeera America and more, Rima Abdelkader has shared the stories that matter most. Currently, a reporter and producer with NBC News in New York City, Rima has interviewed Syrians from inside Aleppo, uncovered a kidnap victim’s escape from the trunk of a car and elevated voices of countless others.

Previously, she served as a reporter and producer at the prime-time, Emmy-nominated television newsmagazine program, “Ali Velshi On Target” at Al Jazeera America, covering local and international issues. Prior to Al Jazeera America, Rima produced with NBC News’ prime-time, Emmy-award winning television newsmagazine program, “Rock Center with Brian Williams.” She also served as a reporter covering the United Nations, and for the Buffalo, NY-based television news station, Bridges TV.

Rima’s work extends beyond the studio as well; she’s a board member of the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association, an active member of Muppies Muslim Urban and volunteers with the post-Sandy relief organization Yellow Boots.

Rima is a graduate of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and of Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, magna cum laude.
