Representation matters, and with an acclaimed media career spanning NBC News, Al Jazeera America and more, Rima Abdelkader has shared the stories that matter most. Currently, a reporter and producer with NBC News in New York City, Rima has interviewed Syrians from inside Aleppo, uncovered a kidnap victim’s escape from the trunk of a car and elevated voices of countless others.

Previously, she served as a reporter and producer at the prime-time, Emmy-nominated television newsmagazine program, “Ali Velshi On Target” at Al Jazeera America, covering local and international issues. Prior to Al Jazeera America, Rima produced with NBC News’ prime-time, Emmy-award winning television newsmagazine program, “Rock Center with Brian Williams.” She also served as a reporter covering the United Nations, and for the Buffalo, NY-based television news station, Bridges TV.

Rima’s work extends beyond the studio as well; she’s a board member of the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association, an active member of Muppies Muslim Urban and volunteers with the post-Sandy relief organization Yellow Boots.

Rima is a graduate of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and of Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, magna cum laude.
